Here is a semi-serious talk, about my video making activity. No one confronted me about this, so don't worry, I am not under any pressure, it's just something I wanted to tell you about for a while. I can imagine that some of you might have thoughts of this nature:
- Why Dark is wasting time on making videos not related to Monstroniverse or fantasy at all? So out of character.
- Editing and recording should take so much time, which Dark would use on drawing instead! What a waste of time!
- Why make them if Dark still has only 18 subscribers and doesn't seem to grow at all?
- Since Dark is using copyrighted music, there is no profit, so why bother?
I can perfectly understand why someone would think that way, and I had these thoughts myself too. Here is a brief explanation.
This month was and still is a blast for me. As you can see I am managing to draw a page a day, and not going to stop any time soon, but... whenever you work on something very hard and constantly, there is always a threat of burning out. It happened to me and it's not a nice thing at all, that's why once in a while an artist needs to make a break and do something completely unrelated. In my case I like spending breaks in 2 ways: to go for a walk, or, that's right, games.
In my whole gallery of games, APB:R is the only game not based in a fantasy setting, that's why it is a perfect distraction. The game is old, indeed, and it has no future, but it has a special place in my heart. The number of ridiculous, funny moments that happen in it are just too much, and I regret that so many of those precious moments were forever lost and were never recorded. This time it's different ^^ I got this Shadowplay program, which allows to capture previous few minutes of gameplay with just a click of a button.
This is how these videos come to be, I don't just sit for hours non stop and record everything that happens, with the strongest desire to make a video, no. I log in, play for my own enjoyment with one of the preset characters you've already seen, and click that button once something funny occurs. That's why they often take so long to come out - editing is not that long process. Getting the right footage is.
There is another reason for this too - By making montages I slowly get experience and I hope to one day use it for Monstroniverse too. Imagine a monstrology lesson done in a video form, with slides and small animations? This is not going to happen soon, but I seriously think about giving it a try once I get stronger on my feet (meaning financial side here ofc).
In the latest video I already tried to make 2 very short animations, and this was a valuable experience for me.
I hope this explains first 2 questions. But as for the last 2... I simply don't care about my youtube channel that much. I am not seeing myself as a full time youtuber as I think I don't have what it takes to create high quality content anyway. There is already a thing I consider myself good at and which I enjoy more than anything - comics, so they remain my main priority. However, APB montages are not going away, as I will still log into the game once a day to relax after hours and hours of drawing. I don't know how many of you watch those videos, but I'm curious to find that out. That's why I am launching a poll. This poll will not have any impact, but it is still curious to know, so leave a vote if you want
